With MacWorld 2008 only weeks away (January 14), I’ve decided to take part in a time-honored tradition amongst Apple fans: Make a few outrageous predictions only to be disappointed once reality sets in. I’ve got a bit of an advantage, as the Decker I hired managed to grab Steve Job’s StickiesDatabase before the IC’s got to him. Here is what he found:
iPhone:
The iPhone’s have been selling really really well. Worldwide, we’ve sold 5 million of them. As promised, we will be releasing an SDK for developers so that they can begin writing great applications for the iPhone. We wanted to take part in the Android Developer Challenge, so we’ve ported the Android stack to Mac OS X to run on the iPhone. We’re announcing the new Dogcow Virtual Machine, which we think will make applications on the iPhone even better.
We’ve updated the iPhone: 16GB of storage, integrated GPS, a 5MP camera, and a dedicated camera button. A new version of the iPhone firmware will also be released for all versions of the iPhone, with better Bluetooth support (headphones! connection sharing!), Adobe Flash, copy and paste, the ability to forward SMS’s, our new iChat client, and Stacks! We really think you’re going to fall in love with your iPhone even more.
We’re also announcing the iPhone Tactile. This model comes with an actual keyboard. We apologize to all of the people who are trying to use the old iPhone keyboard to send e-mails. This is the one you want.
(Should we mention the 3G model shipping in May?)
iPod
The iPod’s have also been selling great. We’ve got 80% of the world marketshare, but we still have some great updates coming out. The new iPod touch can now hold 60GB of music, so we’ve dropped the iPod classic. The iPod Nano now has a great touch-screen interface, and runs Mac OS X as well.
Apple TV
Okay, we really blew it last time with the Apple TV. We’re updating the Apple TV so that it can stream music and movies directly from your iMac or Mac Mini. We’re adding Blu-Ray & DVD capabilities to the Apple TV, as well as making HD titles available in the iTunes store, so you can now watch all of your favorite movies in HD. We also allow you to rent movies straight from the iTunes store for the first time. (show demo of Inconvenient Truth with Al Gore).
We have also partnered with Nintendo, and have made the Apple TV frontend available on the Wii. You can now access all of the same great content straight from the Wii, without buying an Apple TV. We think this is going to be great.
MacBook Touch
The New MacBook Touch. Like a MacBook, but flippable. When we saw the OLPC XO-1 released with a rugged flippable screen, we decided it was finally time to bring this great technology to the Mac world. You can now flip the screen around to reveal a touch-screen interface. The new MacBook is thinner, and made a beautiful glossy black finish standard.
New 8″ model available for kids
WiMax & Blu-Ray now available as options
MacBook Pro Touch
Flips like the MacBook, but adds support for pressure-sensitive styluses. Make this mac your life’s canvas! We’ve also added a special black & white low-powered mode to the MacBook Pro screen. Not only is this great for reading eBook’s, but also great for outside use.
WiMax & Blu-Ray support standard. Now supporting quad-core processors. Our fastest MacBook Pro yet!
Mac Mini
