Weekend in Wetlanta

June 27th, 2006 · Comments

I got back to Atlanta a week and a half ago, and it feels like it’s been raining ever since. The first week I got back, I was a work-a-holic so I can get my first project into beta at work. This week things are a bit more relaxed for me, thankfully.

On Friday night, Dallas and I volunteered at the Atlanta Pride Festival, which was a lot of fun. We were collecting money for the pride, and it amazed me how willing everyone was to donate. Not one person turned me down, happily donating anything from $0.01 to $20 a person. Sadly, the stage fell down during a heavy gust of wind (see photo), and the festivities were cancelled for that night due to safety reasons. I heard the Pride did better during subseqent days, but it looks like the heavy rains on Sunday cancelled the remainder of the festival. I wonder what Jerry Falwell would have to say about it all.

On Saturday we laid around, eventually getting out of bed to swing on by Big Dave’s house for a BBQ. David (Noah!) Stein is the longest running friend I still talk to, going on 14 years or so, and he also happens to live only an hour away from me. It was the first time I got to see his finely decorated home, and it was an awesome chance to meet more folks my age from the Atlanta area. It seems Dave’s done a great job keeping in contact with all his GaTech buddies, and many of them stopped by as well. He had some great food there — especially the desserts, but the conversations were the real treat. I will definitely head back out that way soon.

Sunday was spent at church and at a Bridal Show. I wasn’t terribly impressed with the show, but did at least get to see some good photography samples. It really amazed me that people with master’s degrees in Photojournalism were charging the same amount of money as the middle-aged men who bought their first DSLR and think they make a good wedding photographer now.
