Token Ring

March 26th, 2006 · Comments

Today, I asked Dallas to marry me.

Thankfully, she even said YES! After 3 very wonderful years of procrastination (dating), I thought it was about time to pop the question. I proposed to her as we were pulling up to UUMAN in her 1971 Volkswagen Bus. The same bus we shared our first kiss in. Just as I expected, she was so surprised that she thought I was kidding at first. Simultaneous to this, Dallas has posted her account of today in her blog.

When I began acquiring and taking apart token ring networking equipment (see this Jan 3rd entry), some people asked me what I was doing with it. I came up with a few elaborate ring designs, but decided that this simple triplet of two resistors and an LED would be the most appealing, held together by the inards of a power lead cable and a lot of filed down solder.

The orange glow in the LED is more of an optical illusion. It’s a reflection created by the flash of some rosin that collected under the LED from when I sized the ring to fit her finger. In any case, we’ll be shopping around for a more expensive ring later this week. :)
