Sometimes, I’ve been known to let “maintenance items” in my personal life slip behind for a while. This has been especially true when I’m particularly driven by a project at work, but at the moment, it’s been mostly procrastination, with the excuse of too much recent travel and concentration on some non-work related projects I’ve been up to. Regardless, I was feeling particularly haunted by many of these items today, so I resolved to get a few things done both at work and at home that I’ve been neglecting. Here’s a small sample:
The most important of which why actually buying the IKEA gift certificate for my brother for Christmas. I had intended on ordering it online while in Sweden, but surprisingly, IKEA does not offer a way to order gift certificates online, only a 1-800 number. I recalled that it was next to impossible to call 1-800 numbers from overseas, and didn’t want to deal with the timezone difference, so I thought I would just wait till I got back to the US. I waited, and then I procrastinated, and then my conscence bugged me until I resolved it. That said, has anyone heard from my brother since he got back?
The next most important thing I got to take care of was feeding my poor firebelly toads, fish, and putting new water into the tank. I feel as I’ve been neglecting them since I moved them out of the dining room and into the living room. Thankfully, everyone in the vivarium is still alive. I’ll have to take some updated photos later of it.
I also got a chance to take a nice walk with Dallas and Clover, which I felt was overdue. As odd as it may seem to others in my family, I miss the infamous “Swan Walks”. Since I’ve moved to Atlanta, I’ve gotten a bit lazy on the physical side I guess. No longer do I walk to the bus or to work, or walk from work to lunch. It’s just not possible if you’re living OTP*. I’m hoping to get more geocaching, hiking, and kayaking into our schedules now that we’ve mostly settled into the new house. This goal will be easier to accomplish when it gets a bit warmer outside.
Dallas’s 1971 Volkswagen Bus got some much deserved love too. Yesterday I jump started the bus after it was sitting in the garage for a few months, and tonight I convinced Dallas that we needed to take it out for a spin. Before taking it out though, I needed to resolve a long-standing pet peave. When Dallas had the bus in storage for a while, a bird had nested inside of the bus. The bird thought it best to “leave it’s mark” in the driver and passenger areas of the bus. Armed with some Lysol and Armor-all, I did the best that I could to clean up the interior of the bus. There is still much work to be done here, but it indeed quite relaxing to take the time out and work in the garage on something. I’m still a bit skeptical about having to jump start the car so soon with this new battery, and wonder if there is a short or an alternator problem that needs to get resolved.
* “outside the perimiter”, which refers to the places outside of the I285 loop, rather than Atlanta proper.
