Hallo’s Night

November 3rd, 2003 · Comments

On Friday I got to go home a little earlier than the usual, so I could work on the finishing touches of my costume. I didn’t have much time to dress up in anything cool or unique this year, only idea I had was to go as Zorro.

It seems a lot of others had the same idea, given the abundancy of Zorro outfits available at the stores. Dallas was cool enough to pick me up the hat and mask, since I was running a bit low on time. I ended up wearing my slick leather pants, and grabbing a vampire cape and cutting the red collar off to use.

Dallas was supposed to meet me so we could get dressed up and start picking people up for the IST party, but traffic was hell so she went ahead and called to say she was bringing Sunnie over to my place. Ack! My place was moderately trashed, but I did the best I could and cleaned up (including hiding stuff in the laundry closet) in the 5 minutes that I had.

Sunnie entertained herself while Dallas and I finished up our outfits, and then we went off to pick up Meow and José. This was all well and good, except that José ended up dressing up as Zorro as well. He had a sword.

Well, we all crammed into my little Nissan Sentra and headed South toward Sasha’s house. It was an easy enough find, though it was far enough into the woods that I wondered if we were going the right way. The little Sasha signs everywhere helped. The house was a converted warehouse of some kind, and looked like it was straight out of a Martha Stewart catalog. Nice large back yard, great interior, yadda yadda. Nice family home that probably took a lot of time.

The party itself was a bit dry. Cool costumes, good food, unfamiliar faces, many speaking asian languages I did not know. It was all professors and students in the IST program (and their dates), so I didn’t expect it to get wild at all. I mostly stuck to talking with Dallas, Sunnie, José, and Rictor. Rictor put a lot of effort into his 1930′s gangster pinstripe outfit, even getting it custom tailored. Quite impressive, but also quite warm for a mostly indoors party such as this. We stayed for a few hours, and went off to the next party..

I forgot her name, but it was this cool gal I met the other day from IST that was having a shindig at her house. We drove around in many many circles trying to find her pad, eventually getting there only to see a sign that said the party had moved on to the Office Lounge, a bar off of 3rd Street in Bloomington.. so we dropped of Meow at her request and headed over.

The bar itself was really neat. Some incredible outfits (incl. the waitresses), drunk rednecks, and pretty damned good Karaoke. It’d actually been the first time I’d seen Karaoke done outside of that awful movie that Suzy made us go to.. I looked through this large catalog of Country, Pop, and old rock tunes. I recognized a few 70′s rock tunes, but no longer had their lyrics memorized. I was the DD, so I couldn’t drink nearly enough to solo anything myself, but it probably would have been Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin. Dallas however was intoxerated enough (a very very rare event, I might add), which was mostly due to me buying her something called “Go Go Juice”, which could be best described as good tasting Long Island Iced Tea.

Sunnie needed to get out of there by 10:45, so we turned in early, dropped everyone off, and headed home. It was nice to go to my first party up here in Bloomington, hopefully there will be more in the near future.
